Specialty Applications

The unique properties of TEFLON® brand fibers make a number of difficult tasks possible:

  • If you need a non-stick surface that is flexible with the abrasion resistance of polyester then TEFLON® fibers should be considered.
  • The temperature and chemical resistance make TEFLON® the perfect replacement for asbestos fiber in chloro-alkili membranes.
  • The dielectric properties of our fiber make is the perfect solution for high performance electrical insulation that is abrasion resistant.
  • The ease of processing our fibers makes it the perfect choice for sewing threads where UV resistance is required.

Conveyor Belts

When a porous, non-stick belt surface is required, a conveyor belt woven from TEFLON® fiber may be used. Such belts remain flexible and chemically inert over the temperature range from sub-zero to 500°F (260°C).

Sewing Threads

Threads of TEFLON® PTFE fluoropolymer are used when a combination of good flex strength and thermo-chemical resistance is required. Military specification MIL-T-43435 covers sewing thread of TEFLON® fiber.

Caustic-Chlorine Production

The electrolysis of brine to produce sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and chlorine gas is an industrial process practiced worldwide. Operators make use of the thermo-chemical resistance of short, precision cut fibers of TEFLON® PTFE fluoropolymer to enhance the performance and increase the useful life of components in the electrolytic cells used for this purpose.

Electrical Lacing Cords

Threads and cords of TEFLON® PTFE fluoropolymer fiber are used in lacing cords and binders in the preparation of flat, flexible cables for use in aircraft, aerospace, and other demanding applications
